An expired period of stay or another immigration irregularity should be assessed according to the circumstances of the individual case. It does not necessarily follow that leaving Brazil is the only possible course of action.

I am pregnant and currently living in Brazil. When should I review my immigration situation?
Ideally, before an immigration deadline becomes urgent. Reviewing the situation during pregnancy can provide additional time to obtain foreign documents and plan procedures that may later become relevant to the family.
I will be in Brazil during part of my pregnancy. Do I need immigration planning?
That depends on your immigration status, intended period of stay and family circumstances. If you expect to remain in Brazil for a significant period or your family situation may change while you are here, an assessment can help identify any relevant immigration steps or documents in advance.
My authorized stay may expire before my baby is born. What should I do?
The appropriate strategy depends on your current immigration status and individual circumstances. Whenever possible, the situation should be assessed before the expiration date.
My baby has already been born in Brazil. Can BFA assess my immigration situation?
Yes. We can review your family circumstances and determine which immigration procedures, if any, may be available or necessary.
Both parents are foreign nationals. Can you assist us?
Yes. BFA assists families in which both parents are foreign nationals, as well as families composed of Brazilian and foreign nationals.
I am already in an irregular immigration situation. Does that mean I must leave Brazil?
Not necessarily. Depending on the circumstances, Brazilian law may provide possibilities for regularization from within the country. An individual legal assessment is necessary to determine whether any apply.
What about my other children?
Their immigration situation may need to be considered separately. We assess the family as a whole, including children born in Brazil or abroad and family members currently outside the country.
My family is currently divided between Brazil and another country. Can BFA help?
Yes. International families frequently need to coordinate procedures involving people and documents located in different countries. We can assess the family structure and determine the appropriate immigration strategy.
Which documents should I prepare in my home country?
That depends on your circumstances and the procedures that may apply. Certain foreign documents may require apostille, legalization or translation, so identifying them in advance can prevent unnecessary delays.
